Cry Of A Dying River...29
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that flows in the valley of encroachers
Encroachers of the third kind fourth kind
And now the nth kind
Encroachers encroaching forest lands
Encroachers encroaching wetlands
Encroachers encroaching river banks
And lo! encroachers encroaching drainage(s)
The river that is encircled by encroachers.
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that has no political affiliation
In a land where 'politics' rules the roost
The river that has no access to the 'powers-that-be'
The 'power' to stop the encroachers
The 'power' to punish the perpetrators
The 'power' to preserve public properties
The river that finds no meaning in "the law has long arms"
The very long arms that lend a free hand
To the shameless 'creatures' to continue their shameful acts ceaselessly.
