Cry of a Dying River - 1
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the River I was once
The River with full flowing water
The River that made the land fertile
The River that fed the folks
The fresh-water-disease-free-fishes
The 'Pengba-Tharaaks' the 'Ngatons'
The 'Ngarois' the 'Nganaps' the 'Ngakijous' the 'Ngaseps'
The River that shaped the cultural landscapes
The River that was the pride of the town
Where have all they gone now!
I am no longer the River I was once
A travestry of my former tumultous self
The River that nurtured luscious green play fields
The River that groomed potential champs
The River that was the swimming pool for kids around
The River that was so gentle calm and clean
The River that was life lines for the valley
The River that sustained the eco-system
The River that preserved and conserved flora-fauna
The River that was the source and strength of afforestation
