Cops drive out agitating students from Imphal Raj Bhawan gate
Times of India | TNN | Jun 29, 2012, 11.21PM IST
Around 50 members of the agitating All Manipur Students' Union (Amsu) abortively attempted to demonstrate at the Raj Bhawan gate here as police drove them away from the high-security zone on Friday morning.
The move was in tune with an earlier decision made by the North East Students' Organization (Neso), of which Amsu is a constituent member, to protest in front of all Raj Bhawans of the northeast on Friday to raise a seven-point charter of demands concerning various issues concerning the region.
The main agenda incorporated in the memos include enactment of an education and human resource development policy for the northeast, establishment of an education commission for the region, scrapping of the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in the state and implementation of inner line permit (ILP).
