Conflict and Strife in Homeland
Dr Ranbir Laishram *
Conflict and Strife among ethnic groups
Also warfare in our homeland
Often consume our neighbours, brothers and sisters.
It has been a part of our life of late.
Despite conflicts and cost of living crisis,
There is "Inassailable hope"
To bring an end to violence
However, Freedom comes at a high price.
Where the distribution of wealth as ever seems so unfair;
Where some members of the society make crores everyday;
And thousands grow poorer for every new Crorepati;
The lust for power seems to be thriving of late;
Whilst each day thousands suffer from Hunger, fear and depession.
In refugee camps, displaced people are forced to reside,
In a shelter ravaged by conflict.
The biggest question of life today is -
Why is our homeland the way it is ?
Why the greed of man is always in season ?
Why some have claimed the earth as their
own and usurped power from the rest of us?
When thousands are homeless and have to sleep rough.
In a world where empathy and compassion are rare.
It's time to remind ourselves :
This lovely homeland belongs to all of us.
A reality,we all must accept for peaceful co-existence.
Unfortunately, we often forget to learn from
the lessons history of ethnic warfare in the past has taught us.
History tells us - Peace doesn't come from the barrels of the gun.
It comes only from love and compassion
and co-operation among members of different ethnic groups.
