05th December, 2021
NEFIS CONDEMNS THE KILLING OF CIVILIANS IN MON, NAGALAND!
DEMANDS IMMEDIATE ARREST OF THE PERSONNEL INVOLVED IN THE CRIME!
SUPREME COURT SUPERVISED INQUIRY DEMANDED INTO THE CASE!
North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) strongly condemns the killing of civilians in Oting village, Mon district, Nagaland by the security forces yesterday. It should be noted that yesterday, the security forces personnel opened fire on a vehicle, ostensibly taking them to be the personnel of a militant outfit. The brutal killing of the personnel has sparked outrage among the people, who have been seeing the impunity enjoyed by the security forces in the region as the prime cause of the killings.
Such incidents of killing civilians in the name of security measures has been a regular feature in the region. The impunity enjoyed by the armed forces under AFSPA has been used to strike terror into the population of the region. Moreover, the licentious behaviour of the armed forces personnel has been the cause of disaffection of the people.
NEFIS stands for protecting the democratic rights of the people and demands that all the personnel and officials responsible for the killings should be immediately arrested. Only by immediate action against the errant personnel can the justice be ensured to the deceased civilians.
Also, an inquiry should be conducted into the case supervised by the High Court. NEFIS also calls for demilitarization of the region, and pledges to intensify the movement against such killings in North-East in the coming days.
