The Rongmei Phwam Delhi (RPD/Rongmei Council Delhi NCR) and Rongmei Chamnac Phwam Delhi (RCPD/Rongmei Students’ Organization Delhi) is deeply shocked and saddened to see the recent emergence of a disturbing viral video in which a Meitei(Meetei) mob (group of men) assaulted, groped and molested two Kuki-Zo tribal women in broad daylight and they were paraded naked on the 4th May, 2023 in B. Phainom village, Kangpokpi District, Manipur, India.
We, the RPD and RCPD express our deepest concern and strongly condemn the inhuman act carried out by the Meitei(Meetei) men to the innocent helpless women and we stand in solidarity with the victims.
The unspeakable horrific video, which surfaced on Social Media Platform, has shocked and dismayed viewers worldwide with its explicit display of objectification and mistreatment to the helpless tribal women. Such unruly behaviours are not only morally reprehensible but also constitute a clear violation of fundamental human rights and dignity.
We urge the state government and law enforcement agencies to take up all the necessary steps to book those perpetrators and to impose befitting punishments and prioritize to ensure that justice is delivered.
The RPD and RCPD is also deeply pained and saddened by the widespread devastating events that have caused untold loss to Manipur and its people since May 3, 2023. As the Manipur state is experiencing one of the worst, most painful and difficult times with the ethnic violence between Meitei (Meetei) and Kuki communities since May 3, 2023 and as the crisis in the the state continues, we express our serious concern and appeal for immediate end to violence and appeal for speedy restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.
We also extend our deepest condolences to the grieving families of the victims of the violence and stand in solidarity with the thousands of affected people. We also pray for the speedy recovery of the injured victims.
We urge the government and the citizens of the state and people across the globe to work towards the speedy restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur. Let peace prevail.
