Chromite mining delayed in Manipur
Seven Sisters Post | Subir Bhaumik | Kolkata (May 9):
Scores of mining companies from mainland states have lined up exploration drilling plans for chromite in Manipur but are yet to start off for lack of security. Neeraj Padhi , a senior business executive of Ananda Ferro Alloys , told Seven Sisters Post that his company’s plans for exploratory drilling in Ukhrul district has been delayed by months.
“The state government is promising us protection but there are so many rebel groups operating in the state and we are not sure how to get started,” Padhi said. He said most of these companies, like his own or Visa, are Orissa based and very experienced in extraction and processing of chromite.
