Chemical Ecology : Info for colleges and universities in Manipur
Start Date - mid August 2017
Please help in spreading word to colleges and universities in Manipur about accessing a series of online lectures in Chemical Ecology as described below.
Chemical ecology is a relatively new field of Scientific study in India. Chemical ecology examines the role of chemical interactions between living organisms and their environment, as well as the consequences of those interactions on the ethology and evolution of the organisms involved. Apart from offering powerful insights into biological processes, chemical ecology also provides ecology-based applications for agricultural, manufacturing and medical industries, such as protecting crops from pests and preventing the spread of disease.
The National Centre for Biological Science (TIFR), Bangalore in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Sciences and University of Agricultural Science, Bangalore is conducting an online/blended lecture series on Chemical Ecology Under Graduate students, Post Graduate students, researchers and young faculty of northeast India under the DBT funded Chemical Ecology program entitled “Chemical Ecology of the North East Region (NER) of India: A Collaborative Programme Linking NER and Bangalore Researchers”.
These online lectures series will cover several important topics of Chemical Ecology like Introduction to Chemical Ecology, Plant-animal interactions, Phylogenetics, Species distribution across space, Bio-prospecting, Chemical interactions in invertebrates, Bioanalytical tools and techniques, etc. Lectures will be delivered by renowned scientists including Prof. P. Balaram, Prof. Uma Shaankar, Dr. Uma Ramakrishnan, Dr Shannon Olsson, Prof Chandrashakara, etc.
These lectures will start from mid August 2017. Each lecture will be for a duration of 30 minutes only. Students/participants will able to interact with the faculty/scientist after the presentation.
Please remember that for online lectures, institute should have good internet connectivity. If you don't have internet facility, you can request for recorded lectures and participants can interact through email.
Since it is a part of capacity building and outreach activity of DBT's Chemical Ecology program, this online/blended lecture series will be free of cost.
If your Department is interested for the above lecture series, please send your confirmation mail ASAP
In case of any doubt, please write to us.
