Centre opposes Myanmar-NSCN (K) ceasefire pact
Seven Sisters Post | Sujit Chakraborty | New Delhi (June 28):
India has opposed the recent ceasefire agreement signed by the Myanmarese government with the Khaplang faction of the NSCN that was billed as a significant step by the neighbouring country to put an end to the decades-old strife with ethnic insurgent outfits. The Indian delegation led by joint secretary of the ministry of home affairs Shambhu Singh told its Myanmarese counterparts in no uncertain terms about its disapproval of the recent pact since it was inked by a senior functionary of NSCN (K) Wantin Naga who hails from India.
The visiting delegates were also told about the dangers of the pact since rebels belonging to other outfits could pose as cadres of NSCN (K) and avoid being apprehended by the army. The two-day meeting held in Kolkata drew to a close on Wednesday.
