Career through Skill Development
Ranjan K Baruah *
India is a young Nation with many young people all over the country. Though most of the young people prefer to get a Government job, in reality getting a Government job is very challenging as we have many aspirants instead of vacancies in the Government departments. There are youths who do not get good marks or are ready to study further.
Skill development through skill training is one of the areas through which youths can start their own initiatives or get placed in different industries or other places according to their skill.
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is responsible for coordination of all Skill Development efforts across the country, removal of disconnect between demand and supply of skilled manpower, building the vocational and technical training framework, skill up-gradation, building of new skills and innovative thinking not only for existing jobs but also jobs that are to be created.
The Ministry aims to skill on a large scale with speed and high standards in order to achieve its vision of a 'Skilled India'.
There are different sector skill councils which includes
Aerospace and Aviation Sector Skill Council , Agriculture Skill Council of India,
Apparel Made-Ups & Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council,
Automotive Skills Development Council, Beauty & Wellness Sector Skill Council,
Construction Skill Development Council of India, Electronics Sector Skills Council of India ,

Media & Entertainment Skill Council, Retailers Association’s Skill Council of India,
Skill Council for Green Jobs, Sports, Physical Education,
Fitness & Leisure Skills Council, Telecom Sector Skill Council,

Different courses are offered under different sector skills.
When we look at the beauty & Wellness Sector Skill Council then we become familiar with courses like beauty therapist, assistant beauty therapist, hair stylist, bridal fashion and photographic makeup artists, yoga trainer, etc.
Similarly there are many other courses and aspirants may choose according to their interest and choices if they want to be placed or become self employed. Like short term skill training programmes there is another provision termed as Recognition of Prior Learning.
It is recognition of existing skills after a 12 to 80 hours orientation cum bridge course and is good for people who did not have any formal training in the past. Aspirants must be positive in attitude if they want to see a bright future. Apart from skill training, it is also important to have good behavior and attitude to excel in life.
