Career options in ITBP

There are many Para military forces in the country and one such is ITBP. Indo-Tibetan Border Police was conceived on October 24, 1962.ITBP was initially raised under the CRPF Act, however in 1992, the parliament enacted the ITBPF Act and rules there under were framed in 1994.
ITBP is a multi-dimensional force. Presently Battalions of ITBP deployed on Border Guarding Duties from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh covering 3488 KM of India China Border are manning Border out posts at an altitude ranging from 9000' to 18500' in the Western, Middle & Eastern Sector of India China Border.
ITBP is basically a mountain trained Force and most of the officers & men are professionally trained Mountaineers and Skiers to maintain optimum operational efficiency of troops, periodical tactical exercises are conducted independently as well as jointly with Army.
There are many career opportunity related to ITBP. Aspirants may join ITBP and serve the nation and people. Advertisements appear in different newspapers from time to time when there is vacancy or for new recruitment. Assistant Commandants are recruited by the Combined Special Selection Board constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs through UPSC.
Written examination for Assistant Commandant is in two papers viz. - Intelligence test & General Knowledge and Essay Writing. Thereafter, the Special Selection Board conducts a Physical Efficiency Test, medical examination and an interview for selecting the candidates.
Direct Recruitment of Sub-Inspectors for Central Para Military Forces including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police is done by the Staff Selection Commission by conducting a common examination annually. The mode of conducting examination for Sub-Inspectors is in two parts, Part-I has written tests in General Intelligence, Reasoning, General Awareness, Numerical Ability and English language and Part-II has the Physical Efficiency Test, medical examination and interview.
Indo-Tibetan Border Police conducts recruitment rallies in different parts of the country for enlisting constables. In the written test question paper will be set to assess the general knowledge, elementary mathematics, ability to observe and distinguish patterns, followed by the Physical Efficiency Test, medical examination & interview.
There are a numbers of Technical Cadres viz., Medical, Telecommunication, Para-medical, Engineering, Veterinary, Motor Transport, Education, Clerical, Stenography, Hindi Translator & Tailor etc.
Pay scales and perks of various ranks in these cadres are identical to that of General Duty Cadre. People who are committed for their work and wants to serve the nation may choose ITBP or similar services. Aspirants may visit the website of ITBP for further details.
Scholarships Update:
Scholarships for Girls: Pragati is a scheme of AICTE aimed at providing assistance for Advancement of Girls participation in Technical Education. This is an attempt to give every young women the opportunity to further her education and prepare for a successful future by "Empowering Women Through Technical Education".
Number of scholarships per annum is 4000 and is available for girls who are only child in a family and where the family income is less than Rs. 6 Lakh /annum. This is also to encourage families with single girl child. Last date for applying for this scholarship is 23rd November.
Saksham: (Scholarship to Differently Able Students) Saksham is a scheme of AICTE aimed at providing encouragement and support to specially abled children to pursue Technical Education. Number of scholarships per annum is 1000 and for specially abled students whose family income is less than Rs. 6 lakhs per annum. This is only for differently abled students having more than 40% disability. Last date for applying for this scholarship is 23rd November.
