Candlelight Vigil and Silent Prayer demanding Justice for Linthoigambi and Hemanjit
On this solemn day, the 27th of September 2023, the Meitei Alliance, a platform representing Meitei communities across the globe, came together to coordinate a Candlelight Vigil and Silent Prayer to demand immediate justice for the tragic and heart-wrenching case of Hijam Linthoigambi, a young teenage girl, and Phijam Hemanjit, a young boy. Both were abducted and brutally murdered, leaving our hearts heavy with grief and outrage.
The Candlelight Vigil and Silent Prayer were organized simultaneously in various cities across India to express our collective sorrow and to demand justice for the innocent lives lost.
In Bengaluru, the event was spearheaded by MMAB (Manipuri Meitei Association, Bangalore), led by Maj Rajkumar Jhaljit. It received significant attendance, with prominent figures such as Actor Soma and Fashion Designer Robert Naorem lending their support.
In Pune, the event was led by the Association of Manipuri Diaspora (AMAND) Pune, under the leadership of Kulabidu Chanam.
In Delhi, it was organized by the Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee (DMCC), coordinated by Dr. Seram Rojesh.
Mumbai saw the Manipuri Meitei Association, Mumbai, taking charge, and Laishram Nareshachandra coordinated the event.
In Indore, the Meitei community, led by Nicholas, organized a heartfelt gathering.
In Gangtok, the Meitei community came together under N Jaswant's leadership to pay their respects.
Kolkata witnessed an event organized by Rojit K, attended by Rohan Philem.
Chandigarh held a solemn gathering organized at a sector, led by L. Umakanta Sharma. The event was also organized at Mewar, Rajasthan.
Agartala's event was especially impactful, organized by a group of Meitei individuals at Puthiba Laibung.
These gatherings across the nation are a testament to the unity and strength of the Meitei community in seeking justice for Linthoigambi and Hemanjit. The pain of their loss is felt deeply by all, and the demand for justice rings loud and clear. We hope that this collective voice will bring about the swift resolution and accountability that this tragic incident demands.
