CSO meet at Manipuri Basti, Guwahati
World Meetei Council (WMC) has organised an all CSO meet at Rajbari, Manipuri Basti, Guwahati on 21st May 2023 to discuss on the ongoing issues of Manipur where Meetei community is largely affected.
WMC Chairman Heigrujam Nabashyam was present as the Chief Guest in the meeting. The CSO leaders from various organizations of Assam, namely Ngangam Baldev, Yengkhom Upendra, Khemamayum Dilip, Usham Dipak, Irabati Devi, RK Ranjit, Karam Punshi, Gourav Sharma, Y. Dhan Singh, Lourembam Madan and Irungbam Hari were present in the meeting.
In the meeting following important observations were made and consequently following resolutions were taken collectively.
1) Govt. of India should consider three points agenda to resolve the conflict between Meetei and immigrant Chin-Kuki people:
a. Meetei needs constitutional protection as provided in ST provision
b. Implement NRC in Manipur at the earliest
c. Protect indigenous people against the atrocities meted out by the immigrants in Manipur
2) The leaders in meeting jointly condemned the following three points:
a. The destruction of Meetei ancient temples.
b. The demand for separate administration by the 10 Kuki MLAs.
c. Demand to abrogate SOO by the Govt. of India with the immigrant Kuki militants
3) Mizoram CM should not interfere in the internal affairs of Manipur.
4) Stop playing politics of the present conflict in Manipur by the political parties.
5) Request media houses not to portray victims as perpetrators.
