Breeding & Culture Unit inaugurated at Gauhati University - 21st October 2020
A Breeding & Culture Unit of Monopterus cuchia has been inaugurated today in the Aquaculture & Biodiversity Centre, GU by Prof. PratapJyotiHandique, the Vice Chancellor of the University.
This unit has been started in collaboration with ICAR- National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow and funded by Indian Council for Agricultural Research under the project Germplasm Resource Centre Network. It is expected that this unit will benefit the indigenous people and youth prospects with a large spectrum of livelihood.
It is to mention that Department of Zoology, Gauhati University has established the Aquaculture & Biodiversity Centre in 2012 in the heart of Gauhati University with the financial assistance of UGC, New Delhi (under SAP programme with thrust area Aquaculture &Biodiversity), DBT- GOI, DST- GOI, ICAR- GOI & NFSB, Hyderabad to pursue cutting edge research in the field of Aquaculture & Fish Biodiversity with a mission to promote applied research in in the field of Aquaculture for developing sustainable & diversified freshwater aquaculture practices to enhance productivity and income.
