Shree Brahmacharimayum Mahendra Sharma was born on 1st March, 1957 at Khongman Zone 3 Imphal.
He was the son of Brahmacharimayum Amusana Sharma and Phurailatpam ningol Brahmacharimayum ongbi Thambalngoubi Devi.
Mahendra Sharma passed his matriculation under Board of Secondary Education, Guwahati in 1971 and followed his father to learn the art of sculpture.
He has sculpted statues of various deities like Radha-Krishna, Gopaldev, Cheityana Mahaprabhu, Jagannath etc.
In 1978, he took a training conducted by Directorate of Industries and learned new techniques of the art under instructor Aribam Chitreshor Sharma.
He has made the Kanglasha installed inside the Kangla.
Some of the statues of famous personalities he created are of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Neta Irabot, Mahatma Gandhi, the statue of Bir Tikendrajit installed inside Khongjom War Memorial Complex and of Chongthamiya.
He sets up BBCS Museum to preserve paintings of famous artistes of Manipur.
Mahendra Sharma has been conferred Manipur State Kala Academy Award and State Award, Directorate of Industries Manipur for his contribution.
In recognition of his contribution in the field, Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Imphal awarded the title ‘Silpbhusan’ to Brahmacharimayum Mahendra Sharma on it’s 83rd annual conference.
