Banning schools and colleges is not the solution
Dear AMSU
Premjit Laishangba *
Not only many students are worrying for their future, but also their parents might be curious to take up steps to outsource their children for studies.
It is almost 5 months that no schools and colleges are open in Manipur, which is not due to any underground group, or the government or any other organization, but by our very embodied students union, AMSU. We need to take up a rational thought at this acute stage of the state education system.
Ironically, we are throwing stone on our own path- which, I would say, is not a clever decision.
Okay, it is acceptable that everyone should take up genuine responsibility when public affair comes into place. However, it would be always unwise to hit the education or rather the life of students because we will finally be the only sufferer.
Who will repay the debt? Who will take risk for this in future?
AMSU should have asked these questions at least five months back. AMSU, as the name suggests, must be a union that should guarantee welfare of the students. What I cannot understand is that closing schools and colleges is for the students or against the students.
AMSU should have an answer for this. They should keep in their mind-the students first, not the people. Once they assure that the students' needs are in place, the education system is uninterrupted, only then they can take up influential involvement on other matters.
Again, it is high time for them to remember their motto and reconcile their strength to build up a new path because AMSU is the pivotal foundation of our growing youngsters.
Most of the public exams will be starting between March and May, which is only 4 to 5 months down the line. Precisely, students will only have at most 120 to 150 days including holidays and weekends.
It furthers the concern about uncovered syllabi of both theory and practical subjects. As a matter of the fact that this period is a holiday season, we will have very less time to cover up the backlog.
Consequently, the condition will be in a trauma and the students will, no doubt, face a severe dilemma and their routine will be stagnant. Considering all these undeniable situations, AMSU should now administer their process and proceed to bring some productive outputs.
Our student union should undisputedly accept that nothing has been changed in the state's law and order, insurgency and the riot, even after this continuous ban of schools and colleges for more than a quarter of a financial year.
We cannot claim for our CM resignation. How can we ask Ibobi to quit? Will the conditions in Manipur be stabilized when Ibobi quits?
No-this will be the only answer.
As time comes, we should reconsider the fact that we only elected him to lead the government. Concisely, the people of Manipur only elected Ibobi as chief minister.
What did AMSU, MSF do at that time? They might have sat silent and oblivious during election. Therefore, AMSU should redirect their demand and forcibly allow the educational institutions to open with immediate effect, before the condition becomes worse. Proactive is always better than active.
AMSU should be proactive now if they are a true-blooded students union. They should know that no one will wait for us at this stage of rapid growth and development of today's contemporary world.
Human civilization is for the betterment of the humanism. AMSU should also be for the betterment of the students. We are far behind other states or countries in any angles, departments, cores etc; if we still do what we are currently doing, then we are cursing ourselves and the outcome will only be a fatal future.
