Bangalore under tight security for one more week
The Hindu | BANGALORE, August 22, 2012:
Karnataka government on Tuesday said the tight security cover in Bangalore city, including the deployment of the Rapid Action Force, will continue for a week. Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister R. Ashok told presspersons here that 20 persons have been arrested in connection with spreading rumours, and five have been detained for sending SMS threats. Security personnel have been deployed in sensitive parts of the city to ensure peace and safety to the people from the northeast. Security personnel would discharge their duty in the city for one more week, he said.
Stating that over 3.5 lakh people from northeastern States were living in several parts of Karnataka, he said only 25,000 have returned to their hometowns and the remaining are living here. As part of reaching out to northeasterners and reassure their safety, Mr. Ashok said he planned to visit the northeast to meet those who had fled the city and seek their return.
