Bandh against border fencing hits normal life in Manipur

The 12-hour bandh imposed by the Committee on Protection of Land in Border Fencing (CPLBF) pressurizing the Centre and Manipur government to demarcate the border between India and Myanmar before fencing was supported by various civil organizations based both in valley and hills of the state.
No untoward, except some sporadic incidents, was reported during the bandh hours. Bandh supporters took to the streets at various places and imposed the bandh.

Brozendra Ningomba, convener of the Protection of Land in Border Fence told The Hindu that his organisation and the Manipur government have brought the issue to the notice of the union government. However, till date there has been no response at all.

Incidentally, the state government had written to the Prime Minister and Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde to re-survey some areas along Indo-Myanmar border.
