Assam Rifles likely to get its chief soon
Seven Sisters Post | Shillong/ Agartala (July 22):
Assam Rifles, the oldest paramilitary force in the country, which has been functioning without out a director general (DG) for nearly six months is expected to make an announcement on the issue soon, an official said on Sunday.
Assam Rifles, which guards the 1,648-km long Indo-Myanmar border and fights insurgency in some of the Northeastern states, is administratively under the Home Ministry while its operational control lies with the defence ministry. After Lt Gen Roy’s repatriation to the Indian Army, major general RK Lakhanpal is officiating as the DG of Assam Rifles which has its headquarters in Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya.
