Assam Rifles conduct Yaoshang sport festival
The units of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(South) celebrated Yaoshang with locals of different localities in Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal districts over five days and celebrated the spirit of sportsmanship and festival fervor.
6 Assam Rifles (Keithalmanbi Battalion) got together with various youth clubs of Andro, Lilong, Singjamei, Canchipur and nearby areas. The Battalion also organised a day of fun and joy for the children from various orphanages and villages in and around Imphal. The events included a number of games and fun activities for the children to including pony ride, spoon race, sack race, tug of war, fishing etc.
The children participated in various events with great zeal and passion. In addition, the women from DORCAS NGO were also invited for Yaosang celebration. Besides the sporting events which saw large number of young participants, the ‘Run for Fun’ for young kids witnessed remarkable interest and participation.
5 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles (Tulihal Battalion) also conducted a number of events in Oinam, Nambol, Maibam, Patsoi, Mayang Imphal, Yumnam Huidram, Samurao and adjoining areas. Soccer and volleyball tournament for the elders and various games for children were organised. The villagers expressed their gratitude for the efforts of security forces in organizing celebrations for the local populace.
15 Assam Rifles, (Mantripukhri Battalion) organised colour celebration with Meira Paibis and elders of nearby villages. A number of sports like volleyball, football, Tug of War, runs and cultural programmes in Swombong, Koreingei, Chingmeirong and other villages. The locals from all ages participated in various activities. The Tug of War and Musical Chair involving women folks were also organised which witnessed huge cheers from the crowds.
26 Assam Rifles (Thoubal Battalion) reached out to the remote areas in Thoubal district and organised various sports activities. Various games were organised for the children and women of the nearby villages.
Large number of children and women folk turned up in all the events to showcase their talent and sportsmanship from Thoubal, Khongjom, Heirok I, Yaripok and nearby areas. Various sports clubs, village headmen and elders conveyed their gratitude to the battalion for reaching to the remote villagers and encouraging the children and youth to take part in sports activities.
