30th October 2018
Appeal to initiate disciplinary action against the Police Officer for using abusive languages or Manipuri slang to women activists.
Youth's Forum for Protection of Human Rights deeply regret to learn the actions of some on duty Police personnel on the 26th of October, 2018 at around 7:30 PM for using abusive languages or Manipuri slangs in front of the women visitors who went to inquire about a matter of a child custody.
The officer on duty repeatedly used the words like “N***HU, S*****HU and H****NG” etc while sitting in front of the table of the officer, when the women visitors reacted on the derogatory action of the Officer they informed that it is common and a police can use any abusive or slangs word whenever they wish and moods carry.
The incident occurred when a team of women activist visited the Khongjom Police Station at around 7:30 PM to inquire about a case of child custody. The argument started after a woman among the team showed annoyance of the words used by the officer on uniform showing disrespect to the visitors. When reacted to the action of the officer, one of his drunk subordinate on semi police uniform rushed towards the women and reacted aggressively without knowing what actually was happening. The drunk personnel tried to pushed the woman who had reacted, however she managed to escape from the scene and were forced to apologise by the officer and his dunk subordinate. Later they manage to escape from the scene after been apologized.
Such an action by the so call protectors of the people is considered by the YFPHR as an insult to the women society and liable to be booked under the Section 509 of the IPC for an act intended to insult the modesty of a woman.
YFPHR, therefore, appeal the Director General of Police to initiate disciplinary action against the officer and his subordinate and also to Manipur Commission for Women to intervene into the matter at the earliest.
