Manipuri Meitei Association, Bangalore strongly condemns and is deeply saddened by the ongoing communal violence in Manipur as well as the Lawlessness in the State.
The violence has already caused significant and irreparable loss of lives and property for both communities. To ensure that no further damages take place, we ask the leaders and elders from both communities to advise their respective people to refrain from spreading hate, taking up violence and committing heinous crimes.
The two communities (Meitei and Kuki) have their own narrative, however, no good will come from an endless loop of avenging the other and the crimes that were committed against them. Therefore, we strongly appeal to both communities to please give up the violence immediately and refrain from committing any further atrocities against one another.
We urge to the Manipur State Government and the Central Government to take immediate actions to:
1. Provide adequate measures to restore peace and harmony in the region.
2. Immediately provide safety and shelter to all the impacted people.
3. Immediately identify the sensitive areas and provide security and protection.
4. Subsequently compensate all the bereaved and impacted families.
5. Appropriately address the ST demand of the Meitei community as per the Constitution.
6. Appropriately address the concerns of the Kuki on issues of land related to occupation in reserved forest lands.
Lastly, we request for the Government to take firm and punishable legal measures against all the perpetrators in order to restore the people’s belief and trust in the laws of the land. We would also like to strongly appeal to the public to refrain from spreading false propaganda and fake news that could potentially instigate the public and exacerbate the current situation.
We also thank Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Home Minister Shri Amit Shah for their immediate intervention and invoking article 355 and providing adequate central forces to curb the violence and restore Law and Order in the State of Manipur.
