Annual ASHA convention of Bishenpur District held
The Fourth District Level ASHA Convention for Bishenpur District was held today at Kyamba Ningshing Shanglen. Seven dedicated ASHA workers from various part of the District were awarded during the convention for their distinguished works enhancing institutional delivery in the District. The event is being organized by District Health Society Bishenpur, National Rural Health Mission.
Bobby Waikhom Deputy Commissioner of Bishenpur District who was the Chief Guest of today’s function expressed that ASHA are accredited Social Health Activists and they are community Health Volunteers.

ASHA workers have come out voluntarily and they have acquired good medical knowledge. They have been a good educator. They have increased health seeking behavior of the people over the years. In today’s function numerous ASHA workers of the District were present. Their role was appreciated and encouraged from various Health officials and District Administrators.
Dr Usha, State Nodal Officer for ASHA workers who was present in the function as Guest of Honour expressed that Bishenpur District is one of the best performing district in the State. She said that Manipur stood second in Infant Mortality Rate for the year 2014 in India with an IMR of 10 percent. While Goa scored the first position with 9 percent. In 2013 Manipur and Goa together stood first position with an IMR of 10 percent.
As per the record for RIMS 70 babies have died out of one Lakh Child delivery which is 7 percent and it meets the millennium goal of WHO. ANC report to health centre by ASHA workers for making delivery at the health set up and immunization of the children are very much important, she continued.

For Bishenpur District Hospital, Dr H Babychand Medical Superintendent expressed that during 2014 – 15, the hospital record 771 child deliveries in the hospital. In C section, where the pregnant mothers have to undergo operation were 43 cases. Number of infants fully immunized from the district hospital was 484. And 1138 pregnant mothers underwent free ultrasound check up.
Kh Buddha of ASHA grievances redress committee also expressed on the challenges often faced by ASHA workers at the time of service delivery which the concern authority present in today’s function would solve.
Demonstration of how ASHA work in the villages were displayed by ASHA workers in the form of acting were displayed in today’s program.
