An appeal for peace

We the members of KEN (Knowledge Exchange Network, Manipur), an organisation of the international Manipuri diaspora strongly condemns the acts of violence, burning of houses, and attacks on innocent people including a disgraceful attack on places of worship.
We unequivocally condemn all kinds of acts of violence and urge our fellow Manipuris to shun it and choose the path of peace.
The Manipuri diaspora is equally affected and saddened by the current crisis as we have our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, friends, and relatives who are proud inhabitants of the land. We are traumatised to see the horrific state of our motherland where we all belong to.
The burning of houses, religious places, and private and public properties, vandalising them, and looting them will only bring misery and sorrow to the individuals. Nobody gains from violence but only long-term mistrust among us, which will further prevent us from growth and prosperity, and harmonious peaceful co-existence in the days to come. We express our sincerest condolences to all the victims of violence who have lost their loved ones and precious hard-earned belongings.
The rule of law which we have in our society must protect everyone and all. The state machinery must be activated to safeguard every inhabitant of the place. Any disagreement should not be a source of discord but an opportunity for innovative ideas to solve the unsolvable.
We fervently request all the communities to maintain peace and order and not succumb to rumours and fake news. We also strongly appeal to the government of Manipur and its leadership, Mr. Biren Singh, the Hon’ble chief minister of Manipur, to ensure safety, protection, and peace for all the communities in Manipur.
