TODAY -
After the wedding
Soibam Haripriya *
The deed was done
Emptiness succeeded
After containing you in me
Void of withdrawal
Tired bedsheets soaked with violent sweat
At the break of dawn
While I swept and swobbed the strange courtyard of my eternal exile
Disguising bruises of yesterday's invasion
I knelt in front of the gray tulsi
Desiccated by the merciful sun
Worshipping the dried remains
My forehead touched the earth
Lingering with odour of cowdung
merged with the scent of mekrup
Containing the churning of my being
Thirsting to uproot and crumble
those mute twigs of sacredness
My tears left five damp spots
