- The People's Chronicle Editorial :: September 06, 2021 -
UNARGUABLY, outbreak of the novel coronavirus has been severely affecting diverse sectors and activities and newspaper industry too is no different with slump in circulation owing to various reasons consequently shrinking generation of the vital revenue.
Compared to the first wave when readers suspended subscribing out of fear that the newspapers could be possible transmission route of the virus, the virulent second wave marked by prolonged imposition of restrictive measures and many residential pockets declared as containment zones, the newspaper distributors faced a tough time in guaranteeing the public their daily doses of information.
It is only due to sheer grit and determination as well as collective efforts and firm resolve of both the distributors and the journalist fraternity that the newspaper industry has been successful in enduring one of the toughest challenges ever faced.
Thus, it is but imperative that The People's Chronicle conveys sincere gratitude to all, the esteemed subscribers in particular, for supporting our endeavour to serve and provide quality news as we enter into our tenth year of publication.
In an industry that has been in existence since time immemorial in the global context and decades old in the state, we are fully aware that glorifying only nine years of service wouldn't be digestible to many.
However, The People's Chronicle takes delight in being able to live up to our readers' expectation thus far and holds our reputation as a force to reckon with in the field of journalism. We also take the opportunity to pledge for improving and sustaining our humble service.
Although the most notable change in newspapers has occurred in the last 10-15 years, with the rise of online news, interactive webpages and social media platform through which both genuine and fictitious information are being circulated, we remain firmly committed to providing only authentic informative contents.
It needs no reminding that advancement of information technology has been having a massive impact on dissemination of news these days.
An online format provides certain advantages over a print-based format as it can update news stories, provide breaking news and allows everybody access to video and audio content.
Nevertheless, we are glad that there are still many who derive satisfaction reading newspapers daily.
As newspapers continue to remain an important mechanism in making the masses aware about the happenings around them and forcing the establishment to ponder over policy matters, we assure of keeping everybody informed about what is happening around the world.
This daily also subscribes to the idea that a newspaper,isn't only about feeding daily news to the subscribers but also serve interests of the commercial establishments which have been contributing immensely to our growth through resources generated from advertising.
Looking back atthe past nine years, what stands out is that in a society where success is almost always defined in individual terms, ability of The People's Chronicle to survive and thrive is a success story collectively authored by the hundreds of people who have worked on the paper as well as the thousands more who have supported it financially.
Our mission to keep the public informed continues and we are thankful to all for the support.
