A moonlit night in June
K. Radhakumar *
Many moons ago
The young boy
A child of the 60s
Of the last century -
He was over the moon
And life was simply wonderful.
He came from a peaceful home
And spent pleasant days among people
In the vicinity of Lamphel.
Lamphel then was a meadow
Providing rich grazing
To buffaloes, horses and milk cows.
He had a real home
With a good story teller
Of a grandfather and grandmother
A wonderful father and mother
And many brothers and sisters.
He and his friends
They flied kites at Lamphel
And his heart was in the kite
He was flying.
His kite fluttered its tail in the wind,
Birds fluttered their wings
And flew across the sky,
His heart fluttered with happiness
And he became one with the world.
Many years have passed
And the boy has grown into a man.
He has fond memories
Of the happiest days of his life
In the land of blue skies and sunshine.
There's full moon tonight
With her reflection in the garden pond.
The man goes for a walk by moonlight
And can make out shapes and outlines in it.
What makes you think
Life's not fair to you?
It's nobody's fault,
But yours that the moon inside isn't rising.
The moon outside is not at fault
For the predicament you are in.
Tonight the full moon has bathed the place
In a silver light
Why hide your moon
In the silence of the night?
Let the moon in you rise
When the moon rises on the horizon.
You are still in the place
Where you can be at one with nature
And be happy like in the old days.
