A Titanic Clash
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
Age versus youth;
On the one hand parents
But on the other, children -
Surely, one day is as long as another
And also not much different.
The ancestral home handed down
From grandfather to father
And then to grandchildren -
The grandchildren with modern ideas about
The scheme of things -
This is our home, our tradition.
The old love tradition
Our heritage our life
And wish Mt Everest could block
The winds of change
Blowing through the new world -
The world of the rising generation
The iconoclasts who think big.
The old are not prepared
To watch the rich heritage disintegrate.
The old man is happy to remain a caterpillar,
Why change into a butterfly
And take the risk?
Brightly coloured butterflies do not live long.
Life is not as it should be
But as it really is
Dry and boring.
Ours is a tragedy
Of a life not yet lived
For an understanding future.
Experience shows us
Life is very monotonous and boring
And there is no understanding future.
I have a dream
A dream of the scheme of things
A dream of life.
Why dream a dream?
Maybe I am young
Maybe it is in my nature.
'What do hens dream of?'
'Of millet.'
Why cling to tradition
And lie down to die?
Yes, I have a dream
A way out for this mess
This monotony this boredom this life
And look forward to a bright future.
