A Sweet And Soft Future
P. K. Deb *
By the bank of the border-river
waits a sneaking young man
with his lustrous young beloved,
aims at a new world of love and care
supposed to be discovered in
the other bank of the river.
Brimful the level of water---
flows in and strikes against the bank
with terrific force and sound
and two pairs of proceeded feet
to unknown destination get wet,
and the whole entities get thrilled.
The young man is indifferent to all
watching the east and the west
and the cloudy sky too raising his
dreamful but thoughtful eyes.
The beautiful girl-the only companion
holds the right hand of her man
and comes closer and drives away
the black shadows of anxiety and hesitation
from the fair face of her man of all time
and affirms those affirmatives
to remind him about the dreams-
those they have knitted together
and the spontaneous swearing
that they have sown in the soil of their souls.
The young man and pretty beloved
look at each other and discover a trust
and a zeal to live and die together,
they look behind with controlled tears,
bade good bye to the past
and plunge together in the river to swim across
in quest of a sweet and soft future
which they must discover together.
