A Bunch of Forget-me-nots
K. Radhakumar *
I had no sense of deja vu
As I woke to a clear blue sky
Before the virgin sun rose in the east.
Always rose the new sun
With his entourage of adoring fans
Colours, sound, small birds, etc.
That was long, long ago.
What about today?
Today is my seventieth birthday
And my morning blues is
All my yesterdays had not,
Had not vanished into thin air.
Today I know I had beautiful yesterdays
And I am not a happy man.
In my yesteryears
I had a bright tomorrow
And I was a happy soul.
A bright tomorrow!
Now I know tomorrow never comes;
My bright tomorrow is nothing
But a flying goal.
Seven decades of my presence here
My education my love my everything
Nothing is complete.
I live in the past.
What day is today?
I have a terrible hangover
From last night’s party.
I cannot get up early –
This is one of the perks
Of being a man
Who drinks like a fish.
Yes, I have got a drink problem.
I spend my evenings
Glued to the bottle;
I refuse to move
For a promise of jam tomorrow.
