92% in Tamenglong use firewood but 57% have cell phones

Of the 6.09 lakh households in Manipur, 65.7 per cent are still using firewood, much above the national average, while only 29.7 per cent use cooking gas for cooking purposes, the houses, household amenities and assets Census 2011 has found.
The report released here today by director, census operations, Manipur, Y. Thamkishore Singh, said only 0.2 per cent households used kerosene for cooking. The average all-India percentage of households using firewood is 49.
Ukhrul district tops the list with 93.1 per cent of total households of 35,790 stated to be using firewood. Tamenglong has 92.9 per cent of the 24,477 households as firewood users.
