72nd Independence Day celebrations by Assam Rifles
72nd Independence Day was celebrated by the units under command 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) in the Sector Headquarters, all Battalion Headquarters and Company Operating Bases in the remembrance of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters, in which the locals and school children participated with lots of enthusiasm and zeal.
The celebration at all the locations started with the hoisting of the National Flag followed by playing of National Anthem followed by various cultural programs performed by the students. Games and competitions to include drawing and painting competition were organised for the school children and the youth who had attended the function.
The day saw enthusiastic participation from everyone and provided an opportunity to interact with the locals, spread awareness about security forces and generate a sense of patriotism amongst all attendees. The endeavour of Assam Rifles in promoting peace and harmony in the region was appreciated by all.
Sajik Tampak Battalion of 28 Sector Assam Rifles celebrated the 72nd Independence day with utmost pride, having been conferred with these gallantry awards including two Shaurya Chakra for unparallel bravery and resultant elimination of insurgents. The unit celebrations witnessed enthusiastic participation by the operating bases. The Ex-Servicemen, Veer Naris, Village Chiefs, Village elders, Youth and Rids attended the events on huge numbers, reaffirming the Bonding that exist between Sajik Battalion and the people of Kana Valley.
After the ceremony, during the informal interaction, the locals expressed their desire for establishing peace in the area. They pledged their allegiance and support for Sajik Battalion and assumed of all assistance in order to defeat the nefarious designs of the insurgents. The village chiefs and the youth were willing to forward an appeal to their counterparts across the Indo Myanmar Boarder to revere all support to the insurgents.
It is evident that its the beginning of the end of insurgency and violence in Sajik Valley. The people movement has started and they want peace. The entire population expressed their willingness to propagate and act as carriers of the surrender policy so that the misguided youth who are lured into the business of violence can be guided back to mainstream. The Kana Valley is filled with nationalism and is on track to defeat insurgency.

The green hills of samtal salient draped in tricolor on Aug 15 on the occasion of 72nd independence day celebrations at Sehlon Battalion. This region started enjoying the taste of freedom only from 2004 as before that samtal salient was occupied by the notorious UG groups. These UG organizations surpassed the cruelty of Britisher’s and virtually administered a horrific parallel government till 2004.
The combined efforts of Indian Security Force gave the fruit of freedom to the local populace after eliminating the UG presence in the region. This year celebrations are special since the time of independence to the nation, first time the civil administration of the region mobilized to this far flung area to celebrate the independence day with local populace. The Sehlon Battalion made all necessary arrangements along with assisting in setting up AADHAR registration counters and SINGLE WINDOW certificate issuing counter at Sehlon Battalion.
A total of 220 villagers of the region participated in this auspicious occasion. Officiating Commandant Sehlon Battalion addressed the gathering and conveyed the iron grit of the force in uplifting the living standards of the population and ensuring peace in the samtal region. SDO Chandel MR Baite represented civil administration of the region. Flag hoisting was followed by the friendly volleyball match between villagers and troops of Sehlon Battalion. A medical camp was conducted to provide medical assistance for the local villagers.
Villagers are visibly pleased with the prevailing peace in this region, otherwise which used to be a distant dream in 90s when the local tribes clashes were at its peaks. The aspirations of the locals are being fulfilled by the Samaritan deeds of Sehlon Battalion, now the entire population of the samtal salient is part of nation’s Inclusive growth. The celebrations culminated with traditional lunch organized by Sehlon Battalion for the entire attendees.
