Report on 54th Engineers Day 2021 (15th September 2021)
The 54th Engineers Day 2021 was celebrated on the theme “Engineers for skill development and employment in combating COVID” through hybrid mode with few people attending at the seminar hall of The Institution of Engineers (India) Manipur State Centre, Govt. Polytechnic campus, Imphal as well as through online platform (Google Meet). Past chairmen, Past Honorary Secretaries, Corporate members of IEI, Engineers from various engineering departments of Manipur, representatives from academic Institutions and various invitees attended the celebration.
The welcome address was delivered by Er. Achom Roudrajit Moirang, MIE, Honorary Secretary, IEI Manipur State Centre. He also welcomed all the dignitaries on the dais and all the participants. A floral tribute to Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, followed by a simple lamp lightening ceremony was conducted.
Er. M. Lokendro Singh, FIE, Past Chairman, IEI Manipur State Centre and Retd. Chief Engineer (PWD) addressed the august gathering. He mentioned the importance of Engineers in building the Nation and such are the dedicated Engineers who have worked tirelessly in spite of the COVID 19 pandemic.

The theme speaker Shri L Niranjan Singh, Director and CEO, JCRE Skill Solutions enlightened the gathering by deliberating on the importance of skills for the emerging youths of the State and the Nation. He mentioned that, for a person to earn his/her livelihood properly without depending on white-collar jobs, necessary skills must be attained on respective areas.
Case studies of Japan, Korea etc. have been explained. He further mentioned that more number of women are now enrolled towards learning more skills and that it accelerates the growth of the economy of the State and the Nation. He also spoke about the present un-employment status for Manipur and explained about the role of his Company/Institution in imparting skills to the young generations of the State.
Er. N. Joykumar Singh, MIE, Immediate Past Honorary Secretary, IEI Manipur State Centre mentioned few words about the importance of skills in surviving the modern world that we know today.
The presidential speech was delivered by Er. Th. Joykumar Singh, FIE, Chairman, IEI Manipur State Centre. He deliberated about the origin of Engineers Day celebration to the august gathering. He also narrated a brief life story of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya and how he achieved various positions in different organizations across India.
He further mentioned about the skills and technical knowledge that Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya applied in creating various wonderful masterpieces across India. The Chairman concluded the speech by mentioning that Engineers must be well equipped with necessary skills to solve the ever-growing problems of the society like climate change, energy scarcity problems, lack of clean water, proper drainage and flood problems, food shortage, etc.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Thokchom Subhaschandra Singh, AMIE Joint Honorary Secretary, IEI Manipur State Centre. He thanked all the members of the dais and all the participants, both offline and online, without whose support would the celebration be a distant dream amidst the pandemic.
The programme was hosted by Dr. N. Monika Chanu, AMIE, Executive committee member, IEI Manipur State Centre. A packed lunch followed the celebration.
