2-day meet on cold water fisheries in northeast
Times of India | TNN | Mar 23, 2012, 03.31AM IST Guwahati
About 120 scientists from across the country will gather here on March 24 to find out ways to improve cold water fisheries in the northeast. Considering the fact that a significant part of its geographical area is hilly, the northeast has good potential for promotion of cold water fisheries.
"The northeast has a great future for cold water fisheries because of its hilly terrain and high altitude. Many cold water fish have a high demand in the market, and the region is very conducive for setting up such fisheries. But no steps are really being taken in this direction. So, the scientists are going to find out whether there are any research gaps and discuss the measures that needed to be taken to promote cold water fisheries in the region. The recommendations from the two-day deliberation will be send to all the stakeholders in the region," an official said.
