11 years in service and raring to go

The People's Chronicle has completed 11 glorious years in the public service of disseminating information.

It was on this day (September 6) in 2012 that the first edition of The People's Chronicle hit the newsstand, giving a new taste and flavour to the reading public of Manipur.

As a sister publication of Poknapham, the largest circulated Manipuri daily, The People's Chronicle has been keeping true to its mission and carrying forward the task of providing information which are true, unbiased and wholesome, to the people, since the day one.

Keeping in mind the need of changing time, the newspaper is also available in its e-format on its website today, thereby expanding its reach and access to more and more reading public who are living in other parts of the world as well.

In addition to covering news of local interests exhaustively, it has been the conscious effort of our enthusiastically young and dedicated team at The People's Chronicle to ensure that important issues of the world, whether it is politics, socio-cultural or finances, are given enough coverage for the benefit of the reading public to keep abreast with all that is happening around the globe, so that they could form their own opinions on issues that concern the greater good of humankind.

We don't believe in sensationalism as use of bombastic language in writing news reports at the expense of accuracy and truth is not what we are here for.

It is simply against our professional ethics and conduct. Perhaps, it is due to this fact that we have enjoyed more hits than misses in these last 8 years.

In the timescale of the evolution of newspapers as an effective medium of communication, the first printed copy of which was said to be published in 1605, 11 years may be nothing, not even a speck.

But the survival of a newspaper and remaining in the circulation, that too thrivingly, for this long specially in this cut-throat competitive world of information technology where one can have access to a variety of information they need at the touch of a finger-tip is no mean achievement.

This has been made possible because of a dedicated team of professionals who have always remained true to their calling in life and never ever allow the idea of advancing their own personal agenda or compromising their professional ethics for some mere monetary gains to cross their mind.

No wonder, many of our staff have been honoured with awards and accolades for their excellent works by various organisations and government institutions.

We are happy and proud to say that it is the uprightness of our reporters in the field, correspondents/stringers stationed in far flung areas and the boys and girls in the subbing desks who took extra care in cross-checking the facts and figures in the news reports before they go to the printing section, that has come in good stead in consolidating the position of The People's Chronicle as a newspaper to be reckon with within such a short time.

As we completed 11 glorious years in public service and are raring to go ahead with even more vigour, we would like to acknowledge our indebtedness to our columnists and regular contributions whose insightful writings on important issues of the day make The People's Chronicle to stand out from the rest of the newspapers, and also to the newspaper hawkers without whose contribution all our effort for disseminating true and unbiased information to the public would not have been possible at all.

Last but not the least, we would like to convey out sincere gratitude to all our subscribers and well-wishers, for without their support, The People's Chronicle would have become just another newspaper that hit the newsstand only to be replaced by another not long after.
