Seven Sisters Post | New Delhi (Apr 30):
The Centre on Monday said altogether 105 hydroelectric projects with aggregate capacity of 39,569.5 MW have been allotted to central and private sectors in the region for implementation in the near future, at a time when the 2000-MW Lower Subansiri hydro-electric project raised a hue and cry in the Northeast.
Arunachal Pradesh tops the list with 91 projects followed by Meghalaya 6, Mizoram 5, Manipur 2 and Nagaland 1. “Presently six hydro-electric projects aggregating up to 2,936 MW are under various stages of construction in the Northeastern region,” said Minister of State of Power KC Venugopal.
He said three projects in the Subansiri basin (upper, middle and lower) and four projects in the Siang basin (upper, middle, intermediate and lower) are being designed as integrated projects as far as flood modernisation aspects are concerned.
