Qualification on the basis of “majority vote”. Is it still relevant??

Democracy and election goes hand in hand. Even if a country or a state claims to be a democratic one, the election conducted by that particular state is questioned when we try to measure the relevance of its democratic scenarios.

Based on the elections held, USA and India are amongst the top democratic country thst gives its citizen a free and fair election. However, one can see the contrasting nature in the qualifying nature as a legislature in its respective country.

Gaining majority in a constituency guaranty a seat in the legislature. There lies the reason for the mass mobilization campaigns done by the candidate or rather “’intending candidate”, a phrase gaining its popularity in the last year or two or so.

The mobilisation can sometimes produce quite new infrastructural developmental works amidst the negative social impacts like consumption of liquors and tobacco-nicotine substances by the ‘voters’ in several localities.

A trend which we can see is the involvement of youths in active politics in recent year. It is a great sign that the youths are being active given some scenarios in world politics where youth have taken leadership.

We have also seen countries being directed and orchestrated well by female run government to the dismay and disbelief of some. These are changing scenarios we can’t ignore yet happening gradually. However the gradual process sometimes seems to slow that a push is needed to gain momentum. But we can’t deny the gradual slow process.

Luckily or unluckily, the involvement of the youths in active politics is a concern. We can see from history the rise and involvement of youths in the 1920s where future leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose emerged in the national movement. If this will be the case in this contemporary 2020s, we can safely deduced we are entering a bright future with the pillars of our nation in safe hands of today youth.

But those youth of 1920s seemed enlightened. Many educated today still seem reluctant in entering active politics ( subject to correction, it’s the writer’s view during his writing and research). And those who had entered happens to be the emotional youths, sometimes easily withered away from their own moral principles. It would not be entirely wrong to comment that the most lack training and knowledge of politics.

So the question ‘are they being miss-used’? is a probable one. If not, then as cited earlier, it is the best for our future. However, a big probability of ‘if yes’ lacks discussions in forums of medias etc.

Being emotional and in their lively state, hooliganism isn’t far away if being called upon by their superiors. Or if they can’t control themselves in situations they had not planned for. This is not a addition to the positive state of our society rather clinching our society afar from development and peace.

Ruling party tickets are sought after by candidates who wants to win. The no. Of candidates who stands to his party principle are few and easy to count. But the case of politicians who jumped around leaving ideology have been a common pattern.

This phenomenon divides the voters into two broad category a) those who based themselves to a party ideology b) those who based themselves to the politician they are supporting regardless of ideology.

Again, the group (A) will have fewer number when compared with (b).
And being in a multi-party system, one can choose any party he /she deem fit.

Lack of realisation

When the ticket sought aren’t vested upon by the party to an intending candidates, he may have a good option of distancing themselves from the party. All the while, the unnecessary wanton acts of their supporter seem far from being a valid act of dis-satisfaction. Rather, it can be taken to reevaluate their political journey. This comment in no way contradict or challenge the politician figures they have attained now.

Given that majority is the sole requirement any party who have many intending candidate waiting to be their candidature surely will account the probability of majority of a participatory intending candidate. Taken that the another party’s candidate have a chance of getting 100 % vote, they would not set up a candidate whose chance is less than 50 %. They might have account the total no.

In each constituencies and the supporters a candidate have garnered so far. So to retain their positions the party necessarily analysed them all. So instead of creating wanton nuisances disturbing the public life, one should try to react in a calm and peaceful way either accepting the reject or changing another party if they had not come for the ideology earlier.

The disturbances of the supporter to public life deals far more. Every supporter will claim their candidate to be of the best and having the majority swing in the Constituency. However, one should not be carried by emotions and take reasonable logical steps. Here, the emotional youths in politics can be used to create hooliganism easily sometimes in intoxicated manner.

In the meanwhile, we should not forget the percentage of electoral vote in this election. Because a simple majority of the votes polls doesn’t guarantee that the elected is the most abled one. The percentage of unpolled votes and opposed polls should be a deciding factor for the voters to correct themselves in the next election. And for this we have to refer to last election held. And the relevance of an elected remains still in question??
