Bandhs series in Manipur begins
Nagaland Post | Imphal, Sep 1
One of the series of bandh in Manipur passed off peacefully on Thursday with partial response from the general public. Uncertainty has been prevailing in Manipur since Wednesday when a series of bandh were announced by different organisations including militant group in the coming days.
A 24-hour bandh imposed on Wednesday by the state BJP to protest the arrest of its legislators that partially hit normal life in the state was shortened at 1 pm. However, another 12-hour bandh was imposed today (Thursday) by the Poirei Meitei faction of the Kangleipak Communist Party. The bandh which was effective from Thursday morning at 6 am was, once again, shortened at this noon.
One of the bandh calls to commence at 6 am Friday was given by the Co-ordinating Body of Trade Unions, Manipur, a conglomerate of central and state trade unions and employees organisation as part of 12-hour all India general strike.
