Imphal, February 09: Unidentified gunmen shot dead an activist of the proscribed PREPAK who was out from jail on bail at his Chingamakha Sorokhaibam Leikai residence under Singjamei Police Station at around 4.15 pm today.

The victim has been identified as Sorokhaibam Tomba alias Surjit (30) s/o (L) Nilamani.

Interesting, Tomba was the same person paraded before mediapersons by the cadres working under Imphal East commander James, in-charge of Kangla of PREPAK on February 7 for allegedly collecting money in the name of the outfit.

Another person from the same locality identified as Sorokhaibam Imotomba alias Surjit had also been asked to surrender within February 15 for his alleged involvement in the same case.

According to report, Tomba was arrested by the Police Commandos on November 15 last year.

After being lodged in Sajiwa Jail for two days, he was released on bail.

Tomba was a married man having two sons.

Family sources said that Tomba was staying inside his newly constructed attached room when two unidentified gunmen walked in.

They engaged in talk for sometime inside the room while trying to send out the wife of Tomba to buy Kwa for them.

When Tomba's wife replied that Kwa is not available in the locality, they insisted for finding some Khaini.

While the wife was on the errand, the unidentified armed intruders shot down Tomba.

Two fatal bullets, one on the hump of the left shoulder and the other on the side of the stomach hit Tomba.

He was rushed to RIMS Hospital in a critical condition but succumbed to the injuries at around 4.50 pm today.

The body has been kept at the mortuary of the hospital for post-mortem to be conducted tomorrow.
