Anish Ahmed, a young lad from Kwakta ward no 7 is an emerging environmental activist with his peculiar way of planting seeds using a slingshot. With his slingshot, Anish disperses different varieties of seeds mixed with clay(leitan) so that they could grow wherever they landed. This idea came to him after he had an usual talk with an elder. Planting a sapling in a non-approachable area is not easy.

So in order to solve the issue, Anish introduced the idea of dispersing seeds using a slingshot. He used easy to grow seeds like Jam, boroi, orange, lime, and yongchak among others by mixing themwith clay to make projectiles.

He shoots those projectiles in hillsides, riverbanks and every place he visits so that they could grow up wherever they landed. So far Anish had planted around 1 lakh plats with his technique.

Anish grew up as an ardent lover of Nature and wildlife since childhood. He used to plant the leftover seeds after consuming fruits around his homestead land. He completed MA in Geography from Manipur University.

Anish said, we need joint efforts to save the environment. There is a wrong perception that only planting trees can save the environment. He further said that in order to save the environment people need to plant trees as well as save wildlife. Anish has been carrying his activities alone at nearby school campuses, roadsides, riverbanks and most prominently at Thangjing hill range.

On seeing his dedication towards conservation of Nature, forest department officials often visits him. In recognition of his contribution towards Nature, they presented him the certificate of recognition. He had also run several marathon carrying the message of environmental conservation in different parts of the state as well as in Shillong, Meghalaya.

He also continued to spread awareness to protect the Sangai, Loktak and forest areas in Bishnupur district.

Anish Ahmed is the son of late Abdul Aziz of Kwakta Ward no 7, Bishnupur. He planned to continue his efforts in saving the environment in the days to come. Anish Ahmed requests to the people of Manipur to pour joint efforts in conserving the Nature. Saving the environment needs planting trees as well as saving wildlife, Anish said.
