Dr Dhanabir doubts coexistence with Myanmarese Kukis
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, September 25 2023: Myanmarese Kukis, who do not understand rule of law having lived under the shadow of military rule of the Junta and entered Manipur of late, can never have harmonious coexistence with the natives of the state, observed social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram while emphasising the need for identifying and deporting them in order to restore peace and normalcy in the state.

He was attending a peace prayer ceremony organised by All Manipur Ethnical Socio Cultural Organisation (AMESCO), which also marks the end of the month long tree plantation drive of the organisation, held at Kakwa Lamdaibung, Imphal on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Dhanabir observed that Kukis from Myanmar never understood democracy and rule of law right from their birth due to protracted military rule and those who entered the state of late can never integrate with the native people of the state harmoniously.

They should be identified and deported by any means.

There will always be conflict between those who live and understand democracy and those who live under military rule and do not understand democracy.

All the activities carried out by Myanmar Kukis, who entered the state of late, are all outright illegal and they do not hesitate from doing anything undemocratic.

They also do not fear jail term for committing illegal acts as they have grown up under dictatorship, he said.

Dr Dhanabir further said that the present crisis in Manipur is not something that should be taken lightly.

Mothers are sending off their sons with blessings and packed flattened rice to defend the state despite knowing that they might never see their sons again.

He appealed to all to take the issue seriously and contribute sincerely.

Observing that the clash could end soon, he stressed the need for brainstorming on the way forward after the clash stops.

On the other hand, changes in political, biological, psychological and geographical culture are very important, which is why AMESCO has been working on cultural integration for more than three decades now and there are many more miles to go.

The main reason behind the lack of success in AMESCO's initiative is not its shortcomings but the lack of understanding among the people.

AMESCO is doing an important work and people need to understand and support them, he added.

Dr Dhanabir also commended AMESCO's tree plantation drive stating that it is one of the most important ways to fight climate change and global warming.

AMESCO publicity secretary Dipu Wangkhem said that they had planted around 10,000 tree saplings during the one-month campaign.

The culmination of the campaign has been organised with a peace prayer at the historic place of Kakwa Lamdaibung with the hope of restoring the social fabric and peace in the state.

He urged the Central and state government to publicly announce its plans and policies to restore peace and normalcy in the state and to stop playing political games with the indigenous people of the state.

Hueiyen Lanpao editor Dhanabir Maibam, MMWO president Boboi Khorima-yum, Meipak Ningthou Committee member Arshad, film artistes RK Kaiku, Daya, & N Biju, Pandit Loishang member Khomba, Shumang Leela artiste Chourjit, LSWC president Ibungo Wangkhem and AMESCO general secretary Joy also attended the programme.
