Imphal, July 01:
In an apparent bid to mount pressure on the Centre, the State’s Muslim community has decided to seek the cooperation of Islamic countries worldwide in opposing the extension of ceasefire to Manipur.
Declaring the decision, Wahidur Rehman, president of the All Manipur Muslim Action Committee Against Indo-Naga Ceasefire Extension to Manipur told reporters at Keirao Makting today that the committee had telephonic conversations with various world Islamic organizations regarding the ceasefire extension to Manipur.
The organizations have also sought a detailed report on the truce between the Centre and the NSCN (IM).
He also said that the committee will be sending memoranda to the organizations by tomorrow.
Rehman said that Riyadh-based World Assembly of Muslim Youths has assured that the matter will be discussed during a special seating during the second week of July.
Despite this, a memorandum will be submitted to Pakistan President Pervez Musarraf requesting him to take up the Naga ceasefire issue with Indian leaders during his India tour.
Stating that extension of truce area to Manipur is illegal, he said that the ‘dictatorial policy’ of the Indian Government taken up in the name of democracy will be made known to UN Secretary general Kofi Annan, Riyadh based World Muslim League, Governments of Iran, Iraq, Egypt, UAE, Gulf Command Council and US Muslim Association.
The committee will request the bodies through memoranda to mount pressure on the Government of India to revoke the ceasefire extension to the territory of the State.
While criticizing the Centre for extending the truce without consulting the State Government and its people, the committee has strongly condemned the resolutions of the United Naga Council which was taken during a ‘non-transparent’ closed door meeting at Senapati.
The meeting has become a cause for suspicion in the minds of general public.
