World Soil Day observed in different parts of the State

World Soil Day cum Pre-Rabi campaign was held today at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Manipur Centre, Imphal, under the aegis of Co-ordinator and staff of KVK, Imphal West.
Y Dashumati Devi, Adhyaksha, Imphal West Zilla Parisad; A Manimala Devi, Member, Imphal West Zilla Parisad and Dr N Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR, Manipur Centre, graced the observance as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
N Arunkumar Singh, Programme Coordinator of KVK Imphal West delivered the welcome and keynote address.
Y Dashumati Devi said she would consult other members of her Parisad to help farmers in whatever way possible while urging farmers to perform soil testing.

A Manimala Devi opined that it was the right time to consult all elected members and officials for overall development of farmers.
Dr N Prakash said that farmers should test their soils for preparation of Soil Health Card to identify deficiency of plant nutrients so that productivity might be increased.
Further, he announced that ICAR would cultivate pulses in 300 hectares of land to mark this year as International Year of Pulses.
Kh Hera Singh, pronounced the vote of thanks.
Altogether, 100 Soil Health Cards were distributed during the observance.
Dr T Basanta Singh, Arun Kumar and Er Kh Hera Singh, S Gunamani Singh and Er L Kanta Singh were the resource persons in the technical session of the function.
World Soil Day was also observed at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chandel on the theme "Soil is a solid ground for life." Nunghlung Victor, MLA, 41 A/C Chandel; Robert Kshetrimayum, Deputy Commissioner, Chandel; L Ingobi Singh, Project Director, ATMA, Chandel; K Brojen Singh, Deputy Director, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Chandel and GP Kabui, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Chandel, graced the function as chief guest, guest of honours and president respectively.
The function was moderated by Ts Leenda Monsang, ACTO (Plant Breeding).
Dr A Ameeta Devi, ACTO (Animal Sc) welcomed the dignitaries and the progressive farmers while Dr K Sonamani Singh, ACTO (Agril Engg) gave the keynote address on World Soil Day.
During the function, 250 Soil Health Cards were distributed to progressive farmers from different blocks of Chandel District.
Nunghlung Victor, MLA, 41 AC, Chandel, said groundnut crop are very suitable for the hills of Chandel. Robert Kshetrimayum, Deputy Commissioner, Chandel, stressed the need for organising regular training programmes on soil nutrient management.
The World Soil Day was also observed at Waiton village, Imphal East under the aegis of KVK Imphal East and at BJP office organised by the BJP Kishan Morcha.

ADC Sadar Hills Chairman Haokholal Hangshing, ADC Sadar Hills Member Wilinlungbou and local MDC Rocky Rangtaina graced the programme as presidium members.
182 soil health cards were distributed to the beneficiaries while agri-inputs were also distributed as part of pre-rabi campaign to more than 150 farmers.
Haokholal Hangshing said that fertile soil will produce healthy food and motivated the people to promote sustainable soil management practices.
Rocky Rangtaina also highlighted the significance of soil and recommended the farmers to avail the technology, knowledge and method provided by KVK Hengbung during the various trainings and seminars.
