Acting on a special tip off, troops of 32 Assam Rifles arrested one KYKL cadre from the general area of Wangkhei Soibam Leikai yesterday, said the PRO of Assam Rifles in a statement today.
During interrogation, the cadre revealed that he was with the PLA before and served as a cook of the outfit at Bangladesh from 2003 to 2004, said the PRO and added that on returning, he joined the KYKL as Project Officer.
The PRO further said that it has also been learned that the KYKL had served demand notes on the LIC and threats on the shop keepers of Imphal market.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Gurumayum Kameshwar Sharma (43) of Wangkhei.
A sum of Rs 14,13,030 along with three mobile phones and some incriminating documents were recovered from his possession.
He has been handed over to Porompat PS.
In another incident one KCP cadre managed to escape when troops of 4 AR descended on Hafta village, said the PRO and added that the troops moved in following complaints from the local meira paibis that the cadre was extorting.
The cadre left behind one magazine and five rounds of 9 mm pistol, added the statement.
