Imphal, January 30 2015 : SSB Luknow, SEYO Singjamei, PHAM Yaiskul and ARC Shillong advanced into the Ist Wahengbam Thoibi Devi Challenge Hockey Trophy-2015 after overcoming their respective opponents in the matches played at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium here on Friday.

Billed as one of the biggest tournaments in the region, the sporting event which would go on till February 8 is being organised by Manipur Hockey with participation of 11 teams including three from outside Manipur.

SSB Lucknow, SEYO, PHAM, ARC Shillong sail into next round

In the first match of the tournament on Friday, SSB Lucknow drubbed Radial Club, Nagaon, Assam by 4-1 goals.

Of the four winning goals of SSB Lucknow, two were contributed by O Gunamani in the 17th and 36th minute while L Joychandra and Arif Angari fetched the remaining two goals in the 10th and 47th minute respectively.

The lone goal of Radial Club came from Atul Angare in the 59th minute of the match.

In the second match, SEYO Singjamei defeated YCCIC Ahallup by 6-2 goals.

The six goals of SEYO were scored by Kh Naresh in 21st minute, Ksh Una Shankar (captain) in 26th and 65th minute, Ksh Sumesjanta in 51st minute, I Stalin in 55th minute and A Sanjoy in 62nd minute.

On the other hand, the two goals of YCCIC Ahallup were scored by N Sanjoy and A Huru in the 34th and 47th minute.

In the third match, Meira Bashikhong suffered defeat in the hands of PHAM Yaiskul by 4 goals to 11.Of the 11 goals of PHAM, Kh Jayenta alone contributed 8 goals which came in the 2nd, 6th, 7th, 22nd, 34th, 45th, 48th and 60th minute.

Teammate Kh Rahikanta also contributed two more goals in the 10th and 67th minute while K Debeshore added one more in the 40th minute.

The four goals of Meira were scored by S Junction in 20th minute, K Herojit (captain) in 52nd minute and Kh Tompok in 55th and 65th minute.

In the last match of the day, ARC Shillong beat Hockey Union Lairikyengbam Leikai by 3-1 goals.

Th Bunty, M Premchand and L Lijohn scored the three goals of ARC Shillong in the 51st, 57th and 60th minute while the lone goal of Hockey Union was fetched by K Boy in the 36th minute of the match.

On Saturday, Lizard Library Wangkhei and KHSC Khongman would play the first match at 8 am; Meira Bashikhong would meet SSB Lucknow in the second match at 9 am while the third match would be played between Hockey Union Lairikyengbam Leikai and Radial Club, Nagaon in the afternoon.
