Chalou Cup: Yourbung outplay Pungdongbam

Imphal, February 10 2014: Coming back from a goal down, YYC, Yourbung carved out a convincing win over YDCL-A Pungdongbam by a margin of 5 goals to 2 in the Chalou Cup today.

After the first whistle, YDCL-A Pungdongbam went for the kill and before the YYC Yourbung players had even settled down took an early lead in the 4th minute when Kh Luckyson netted the goal.

The goal came off a fine move from the midfield, catching the defence line of YYC Yourbung on the wrong foot.

Kh Luckyson who received a precise pass at the top of the penalty box, sidestepped a couple of defenders and had little difficulty in finding the net.

Stung by the early goal, YYC, Yourbung got back into the match and started making forays into the territory of the rival team.

The equaliser came in the 10th minute of the match when W Dhana faced no opposition and had all the time and space to lob the ball into the goal of YDCL-A Pungdongbam.

Buoyed by the equaliser the flood gates opened and N John, capitalising on a defensive lapse netted the ball in the 11th minute to put YYC Yourbung ahead.

The one goal deficit did not dampen the YDCL players and a fine move down the flank breached the defence line of YYC Yourbung.

A crisp pass from the flank fell at the feet of H Poireiton who neatly controlled the ball and sent it home in the 25th minute to bring his team back into the game.

Thereafter it was YYC Yourbung all the way with W Dhana leading the charge and putting his team ahead again in the 27th minute of the match.

W Dhana was at it again when he pounced on the ball near the penalty box of YDCL-A Pungdongbam and despatched the ball into the far right of the net to beat the custodian comfortably in the 40th minute.

Daniel of YYC Yourbung figured among the scorers when he slotted the ball home in the 44th minute to seal the match and carve out a convincing win by a margin of 5 goals to two.

The second half was a listless one with neither team scoring.

SSC B Sekta thrash ELC Nongada : The second match of the day saw SSC-B Sekta thrash a hapless ELC Nongada by a margin of 4 goals to one, thanks to some fine combination amongst the forwards of the team from Sekta.

Though it was the team from Nongada which opened its account in the 36th minute through Th Khongjemba, SSC-B Sekta came back strongly to score four goals without conceding another one.

Barely one minute after the first goal, Kh Somorjit of SSC found the equaliser in the 37th minute and it was the team from Sekta all the way then, with its forward lines pumping in three more goals to take the match away from their rival.

The goals came from S Bishorjit (40th min), N Johnson (42nd min) and Kh Abung (47th min) .
