Imphal, February 01 2025: Manipur concluded the Wushu campaign in the 38th National Games hosted by Uttarakhand with a rich haul of 17 medals including 7 gold, 8 silver and 2 bronze medals today.

The last day of Wushu competition saw Manipur amass two gold and two silver medals to finish with an overall haul of 17 medals and help Manipur remain among top 5 States/units in the medal tally.

The athletes who bagged gold medals and helped Manipur finish the campaign on a bright note were Hemam Robinson who topped the men's 52 kg Sanda event and Yumlembam Echantombi Devi who topped women's Qiangshu event.

Meanwhile the athletes who suffered final defeats in Sanda competitions to settle for the silver medals were Thokchom Jodajit Singh (85kg) and Hamom Sanayaima Singh (56 kg) .

Congratulating the medallists for their outstanding effort in spite of facing challenges in their home state, Mayanglangbam Bimoljit Singh, Manipur Wushu team coach said,"I'm proud of our players' outstanding performances in the Uttarakhand Games this time" .

On the number of medals secured by state players compared to the previous National Games at Goa, Bimoljit, an Arjuna Awardee said, "Game is Game.

There is also luck.

Even though there is a slight difference in the number of Gold medals compared to previous competition, we double the number of silver medals.

We wish our players to make a difference at upcoming National and International competitions" .

Another state Wushu (Taolu) Coach Angom Sanathoibi Chanu, who is accompanying the State team in Uttarakhand, also shared a similar sentiment.

It may be mentioned that 39 Manipur Wushu players including 20 women players participated in the 5-day long competition in the ongoing games.

It may be recalled that Manipur bagged 9 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals in the 37th National Games hosted by Goa in 2023 against 6 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals won in the 36th National Games held in Gujarat in 2022 .

Football : Men suffer another defeat

Manipur men's football team received yet another setback as they went down to Services by 3-2 goals in the 38th National Games 2025 at District Sports Complex, Haldwani, Uttarakhand on Saturday.

It was the second defeat for Manipur after they were beaten by Kerala by a solitary goal in the opening match.

Manipur stood a slim chance of making it to the semi-final as they took on Delhi in the last league match from Group B on Monday at 10 am.

Out of the four teams each in Group A & B, the top two teams will qualify for the semi-final berth.

As for the women's football, Manipur will take on Delhi in the last league match tomorrow at 2 pm at Indira Gandhi International Sports Complex, Haldwani.

This is a must win game for Manipur for a slot in the semi-final.
