Govt keen to protect wetlands

With a view to protect and preserve wetlands of Manipur, an official team headed by Principal Chief Conservator of Forest PN Prasad has launched a field study campaign from today.
The team inspected Waithou Pat, Kharung Pat and Pumlen Pat today, conveyed an official source.
These wetlands act as climate moderators and serve as valuable sources of livelihood for surrounding people apart from mitigating the problems of flood.
Giving a serious blow to their pristine characteristics, many individuals have been encroaching and converting several portions of these wetlands into private fish farms.
The officials who went for the field inspection tour also included CCF (Wildlife) Th Mohindro Pratap, DCF (Wildlife) L Joykumar, Manipur Zoological Garden Director Arun RS and Thoubal DFO Kh Sanajaoba.
