The people of North East region have their own distinct musics and colourful dances, a rare asset and rich cultural heritage known by the country and abroad, said Manipur Governor, Gurbachan Jagat on the inauguration of North East India Classical Music and Dance Festival, 2010 .
The Governor was speaking on the two-day long festival in Imphal on Saturday organized by the Indian Council for Cultural relations, North East Regional, Shillong in collaboration with the department of arts and culture, Manipur.
Appreciating the Indian Council for Cultural Relation, Gurbachan Jagat said its aims of bringing integrity of culture and exchange of ideas through art forms, the Council is striving for articulation and demonstration of the diversity rich cultures of India both within and outside the country.
"Music and dance, which are integral part of the culture and tradition of any civilization, have developed through ages and are part and parcel of human civilization," asserted Governor Gurbachan Jagat.
About 60 artistes from different parts of the country will participate in the ongoing festival and festival will continue at Agartala, he added.
