ASUK gears up to regenerate society

Imphal, August 14 2016: The Alliance for Socialist Unity, Kangleipak (ASUK) has decided to launch a campaign namely Campaign for National Regeneration (CNR) which is aimed at reforming the contemporary Manipuri society.

A statement issued by ASUK remarked that the Manipuri society is now drowning in a sea of issues and problems.

The society has degenerated to the nadir and the economy has become 100 per cent dependent.

It appears that Manipur has lost all its productive capacity.

As a result of the dependent economy and the ever shrinking employment avenues, people's outlook, character and ethics have also degraded to the lowest level.

Now outsiders have exceeded 30 per cent of the total population of Manipur and they would soon outgrow the total population of indigenous people.

By then, all the political power will fall in their hands.

Social discipline and work culture seem to have disappeared from the society, ASUK lamented.

It appears that all the people have taken to one intoxicating substance or another.

On account of all these reasons, Manipur society has become a very weak one.

There is no sense of social unity.

No major civil movement has ever achieved its goal due to lack of unity among the people.

Even the revolutionary movement is going in reverse gear.

Given these grim realities, people need to do something to save the Nation.

The situation demands resurrection of the dying society.

Resurrection of a dying society needs rectification of people's attitude, behaviour, character, social customs etc.

Such changes cannot be imposed from outside.

It should be done from within.

A mass movement is the only plausible means to transform people's psyche.

ASUK has resolved to launch such a movement.

For the movement to be successful, all wrongs should be righted and all wrongdoings should be checked.

The campaign cannot achieve this within a short time.

It should be a long, sustained campaign extending over a period of time.

The reformation campaign will focus on education, sports, arts and culture and health, ASUK conveyed.

To carry out the campaign, ASUK has already formed a special task force, it added.
